Deep Dive
1) When does a surface fascinate you?
A surface fascinates me when it feels multidimensional and tactile — when it invites touch. And especially when it feels different than it looks: warm when you expect it to be cool, rough when it appears smooth.
2) What kind of surface design do you miss?
I recently visited Eriro Alpine Hides, where regional sheep’s wool was used as wall coverings — almost like pieces of art. I miss surfaces crafted from pure natural materials that still surprise you through unexpected, refined treatments.
3) One room. One surface. What do you choose?
Clay plaster. I’m fascinated by its natural insulation and moisture-regulating qualities, the calming play of colors, and the dry, rough texture — it feels strikingly modern and timeless at the same time.
4) What is your vision of future surface design?
I imagine surfaces that actively contribute to climate protection: self-cleaning without chemicals, generating warmth or cooling as needed, or even "intelligent" surfaces that adapt their light and color to the time of day or season.
