Can color be heard?
MATTRICARIA
Based in Brazil, Mattricaria is the studio of designer and researcher Maibe Maroccolo. The practice explores natural pigments and dye processes, translating the richness of local flora into vibrant surfaces and textures. By connecting traditional knowledge, field research and experimental approaches, Mattricaria investigates how color, material and narrative intersect to create surfaces that are both visually striking and culturally resonant. The studio's work balances craft, innovation, and sustainability, bringing a deeply rooted sense of place into contemporary design.
Why Tech? Why Mattricaria?
Mattricaria shows how material knowledge and tradition can inspire new surface technologies. By studying natural pigments, IP25 explores digital ways to create authentic, tactile surfaces. Maibe was chosen for IP25 Brazil for bridging tradition, science and sensory art – translating color into sound and vibration through the Sonic Spectrum of Color. This approach perfectly reflects IP25’s vision of multisensory, experiential design.
