How Paper Becomes the Future – A Visit to By the end of May
What does recycling sound like? At our partner studio By the end of May, the answer is surprisingly quiet. That’s because the NRW-based design team transforms shredded Interprint paper waste into elegant, functional acoustic panels– bringing circular design into a whole new space.
During our visit to the workshop, one thing became clear: this is more than just recycling. It’s rethinking. With a deep sense of materiality and aesthetics, the designers are creating a process where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.
What starts as leftover paper becomes something completely new – a surface that absorbs sound and tells a story of transformation.
By the end of May proves that circularity and design aren’t opposites – they’re allies. When materials, form, and purpose come together, the result isn’t just a product, it’s a statement.
More to come – stay tuned with IP25.
“In a time when we can open source and share online not only code but also material recipes and product designs, how can we reshape (the way we make things)? And if we used local resources to produce everything inside the city, what would factories look like?”
