Exploring Material Narratives at the Obermühle
As part of the preparation for our upcoming exhibition at SICAM in Italy, the IP25 team visited the studio of artist and material researcher Veronika Moos in Urmersbach. Her atelier is housed in the historic Obermühle, a centuries-old mill with a charming courtyard and garden. Right next door, a small herd of “cuddly cows” added to the pastoral atmosphere – an idyllic setting that contrasts beautifully with the experimental nature of Moos’ work.
Moos has already been part of IP25’s Open House exhibition, where her works offered a first glimpse into her material-driven practice. During our visit, she shared her collection of natural resources, her flax reserves and preparations, and the stories behind the materials she gathers.
Together with the IP25 team, we explored how these material stories can evolve into new approaches for the upcoming exhibition design.
The visit to the Obermühle was more than just an exchange of ideas – it was a tactile experience of touching, observing, and reflecting on how raw materials connect heritage and innovation. Once again, Moos’ work reminded us that surface design begins not with industry, but with the land itself.
